Archean Chemical Industries Pvt Ltd

Key Achievements

• Keller’s ability to provide a mix of ground engineering solutions gained through engineering excellence helped in providing and executing optimal solution which helped in saving project time and cost.
• Irrespective of the site remoteness and associate difficulties, Keller demonstrated its commitment to deliver the project within the agreed cost and time.

The Project

ACPIL was constructing a marine chemical plant to manufacture sulphate of potash and    bromine. The proposed facility consists of  SOP plant, bromine plant, storage tanks, chillers, cogen plant, warehoused and other ancillary structures at. The site is located at Hajipir in the Greater Runn of Kutch at Gujarat, India. Keller was commissioned by ACIPL to provide optimal foundation solutions.

The Challenge

The major challenge was the remoteness of the project location which was in Runn of Kutch and entry to the site was controlled by Border Security Forces (BSF). As per project plan, approx. 150 people were required to perform the project within the stipulated time period and the nearest town was 2 hours drive from the site. Additionally, the sub soil conditions was soft to firm silty clay due to its proximity to the coast.

The Solution

To address the geotechnical challenges, Keller proposed cost efficient alternative foundations system, where vibro stone columns were installed to support light to medium loaded structures and bored piles were used to support sensitive structures with high load intensities. In total, over 120,000 m² of area was treated using vibro stone columns and 1,616 no's of bored piles (0.75 meters diameter) were installed. Comprehensive field quality plan was developed with help of engineers to monitor quality of the works. The entire eco system needed for the project success such as township, concrete batching and recreation facilities were developed within the project premises.
