Deepak Phenolics Ltd

Key Achievements

• Keller's’ engineering excellence and wide portfolio helped in providing a mix of ground engineering solutions depending upon the soil conditions and the structure performance requirements.

• The selection of Optimal foundation reduced the direct cost of geotechnical works and also helped in early completion of the project.

The Project

Deepak Phenolics LTD (DPL) had proposed to construct the phenol plant at Dahej, Gujarat. The proposed project comprised of constructing phenol processing plant, boilers, tank farms, mounded storage vessels and various other structures. Keller was commissioned by DPL to design and construct ground improvement works for mounded storage vessels, storage tanks and heavy foundation works to support other heavy plant structures.

The Challenge

The main challenge with the project was to meet technical specifications set by the project engineer in a silty and clayey subsoil strata. The effective utilization of resources while working in collaboration with the other contractors was an additional challenge during the project delivery.

The Solution

Keller provided an alternative optimal foundation solution with combination of vibro stone columns and bored piling techniques as an alternative to client’s proposal of complete piling solution that helped in saving significant cost and time. Vibro stone columns was used to support mounded storage vessels and storage tanks whilst bored piling solution was used for units such as chimney, boiler units and other processing structures. To limit post construction settlements (total and differential) to within tolerable limits treatment area of the mounds was preloaded. For the convenience of the client, foundation civil works were also delivered.
